We Played

It was a long time ago but I still remember
we'd travel town to town playing Rock and Roll to strangers
people would say you're great, we were more like Great pretenders
We never really mastered those Harmonys or Fenders
But we'd play oh, Pretty Woman, Don't Be Cruel, Stand By Me, Love Me, Peggy Sue
and I can stil hear the crowd screaming loud when the songs were through
Well the guys would pick me up at work on Friday evenings
I'd be counting down the hours until we would be leaving
We'd pile into a van that was old and barely breathing
and the three of us were one, it was like that every week-end
And we played oh, Pretty Woman, Don't be Cruel, Stand By Me, Love Me, Peggy Sue
and I can still see the crowd Twist and Shout when the songs were through
Forget those times? That'll be the day
I know those memories will not fade away
We lived for seven years but nothing is forever
and the way it came apart. We could have done it better
shame how we don't talk, don't call or send a letter
I guess it was the songs that kept us all together
Tunes like oh, Pretty Woman, Don't Be Cruel, Stand By Me, Love Me, Peggy Sue
and I can still hear the crowd screaming loud when the songs were through
Play us I Got a Woman, Blue Suede Shoes, Stand By Me, Hellow, Mary Lou
and I can still hear the crowd screaming loud
When the songs were through
