Lyrics
Accident

By Terry Penney
She was born on a summer’s night in 1935
When grandma Mary was forty—two years old
I’ve always heard my momma say she was and unplanned child
An accident? And Accident? Oh, no
No Accident, a precious little life
Twenty-three years went by, she was walking home
With a friend when they got caught out in the rain
A man drove by in a brand new Ford and soaked ‘em to the bone
An accident? And accident? Oh
His tail-lights lit up red but paled against his cheeks
As he said,”Sorry, can I offer you a ride?”
She laughs, looking back, says “What a crazy way to meet
An accident? An accident ? On no, or and act of God?
I’m forty years his wife”
Is there a guiding hand, some big plan, out in the great unknown?
‘Cause without her this town would be short two nurses
Two mothers with two kids of their own
The list goes on and on , if she hadn’t come along
I’d be missing, there’d be no listening to this song
She was born on a summer’s night in 1935
When grandma Mary was forty—two years old
