About the Channel

We have had a wonderful year of shows for the Woodstove sessions.  Check them out on our YouTube channel.  It is interesting to see from the views that people usually go to the concert, rather than the interview.  When you get a chance, get to know the artist better by also watching the interview.  We, as hosts, have always enjoyed the opportunity to get to know the artists that we have been privileged to present by spending a little time in conversation with them outside of the performance, and wanted to gift the audience with that as well. Enjoy the shows!

Claire Porter will round out the evening with a strong dose of the alternative side of East Coast Music scene. A Newfoundland dynamo, Claire has taken her music to venues across Atlantic Canada, sharing her songs about love, tiramisu and detritivores. Described as having the punch of Judy Garland and the grit of Tom Waits, Claire is an on-stage tour de force, infusing her dry wit and meticulous musicianship into every note. The Dandelion Few: A duo from both Ireland and Newfoundland. There is a mix of the Old World and the New World in their music and they are the genuinely nicest people that you could ever meet. St. John’s based folk duo The Dandelion Few are Tiffanie George (NL) & Seán Bradley (IRL). Since 2018, they have carved out for themselves a niche place within contemporary folk music within Newfoundland & Labrador. The band, originating in Dundalk, Ireland, make music that is as varied as it is pure, from stripped down ghost ballads depicting dark stories of island life, harmony rich introspective lullabies drawn from seasoned poetic depth, and full band arrangements that steer more towards the experimentations of late 60s golden era of folk rock.

Rube and Rake

The Citadel House, 104 Main St, Lewisporte, NL

Home Routes Show: To call Canada your home can be a very vague statement. From the Rockies, all the way to the eastern shores of the Atlantic, there are many places one can lay their head. It’s not only the sheer distance between the two coasts, it’s the cultural differences that exist within them. Rube & Rake’s debut album, Back and Forth, explores this theme with a subtle grace, giving space in their arrangements to explore the issues they sing about. By performing as a two-piece, they’ve found a way to put an emphasis on their lyrical delivery. Whether a song is performed with a four-piece string band, or just a banjo and a guitar, the duo has stories to tell. https://youtu.be/9rZw26a4xR8

Nadine Landry & Stephen “Sammy” Lind

The Citadel House, 104 Main Street, Lewisporte, NL

Tickets $23 Students $12, kids 12 and under free

Review: I’m a believer! Nadine and Sammy channel the old guys. What a fascinating collection of songs and tunes! And their presentation is so entertaining, done comfortably yet masterfully by this couple. They suckered me in, that’s for sure. Nadine’s piercing country voice is perfect for every style she sings here. I believe in her when she’s a 19th Century swamp girl singing cajun songs, I believe in her when she charms me with her playful classic country songs. And Sammy, it doesn’t matter which instrument he plays here, I get goosebumps with each tune. It’s going to be quite a while before this album is matched. - Bill Martin, Bubbaville, Portland, OR

Nadine Landry and Stephen “Sammy” Lind play traditional fiddle music that has been passed on for hundreds of years, classics of the south west Louisiana Cajun dance halls and songs that could have filled a 50s smoky bar jukebox. Alternating between fiddle, banjo, guitar and accordion they play true to the roots of American music with energy and respect. They are members of the Foghorn Stringband the Cajun Country Revival and have collaborated with countless musicians in the old time, cajun and bluegrass worlds.
